    Yaron Kanor
    BA (Interior Design)
    Founder, Lead Designer &
    Hospitality Consultant

Yaron’s ten years of hospitality and interior design experience kicked off in Tel Aviv. It was there, amid the hyperactive Mediterranean nightlife of this cosmopolitan capital that he first made his mark: first behind the bar, then by raising the bar for hospitality design.

In 2012, Yaron wanted to experience a new creative headspace. So, attracted by what he calls Australia’s ‘happy design culture’, he moved to Melbourne. As Studio Y’s livewire leader, he’s led the development of some of Melbourne’s most instinctively appealing and distinctively captivating spaces.

’'I don’t work with formulas. Every project is a new beginning. I listen. I collaborate. Then I create. Every recipe is seasoned to taste. ’The coolest part of what I do is finding new ways to translate my clients ideas and fantasies into
realities we can all see, feel and experience. I’m addicted to that thrill.’'

    Sophie Metcalfe
    BA (Interior Architecture) Hon.
    Interior Designer

Sophie is an explorer and a challenger from the far-off land of Port Macquarie. Before landing in Melbourne, she travelled the world in search of uncommon experiences and unique inspirations. She found them both and brought them to us.

Sophie loves to test the constraints of each space, and is always looking for ways to transform them into the foundations of a fresh vision.  Her impassioned, highly-caffeinated talent is a perfect complement to StudioY’s team.

'‘Inventing environments and interiors is always exciting: it’s a chance to experiment with possibilities and to seize unexpected opportunities. I’m fascinated by the creativity of everyday life: when we question the way that people work, live and play, we discover ways to enhance their experiences.’'

    Dana Barely-Katz
    BA (Architecture) Hon.
    Design Architect

After graduating from Tel Aviv university, Dana cut her teeth on numerous significant projects in Israel, including an airport design and major housing developments. Dana then moved to Melbourne to inject her rich overseas experiences into the Australian design scene.

Practical and creative, problem solving and aesthetics-seeking, Dana has a cohesive approach to design believing the smallest detail goes hand in hand with the overall scheme.

“My mantra is 'the beauty in practicality'. The best designs first consider practical needs that are then crafted into elegant shapes and volumes and exciting interiors”.

    Aiste Strazdaite
    BA (Hons) / MAarch Architecture
    Design Architect

Aiste hails from the nearby town of Vilnius, Lithuania via way of Manchester in the UK. A curious globetrotter and internationally minded, her travels include a period in Malawi designing and building schools using novel construction methodologies as well as multiple projects in Europe. Now calling Melbourne home she has developed an insatiable appetite for great coffee in quirky cafes sharing good conversation with her suave Eastern European accent.

As a designer Aiste seeks to challenge the norm and question the 'why', seeking to push the boundaries and consider her work as not only space, but a place of habitat. Applying industrial design concepts and 3D ideation methods to her work, she approaches design from alternate angles yet never loses sight of the bigger picture.

"Architecture is about place. A site is more than a property line or room - it's a complex system of culture, materials and history. I aim to design in a way that ties strongly with the notion of place; making and creating space that ennobles people, making them feel empowered, important and excited to be in the placed they inhabit in their daily lives".

    Shannon McDonald
    BA (Media and Communications)
    Studio Manager

Shannon spent her formative years on the beaches of Perth before heading for the cooler climes of London. After exploring the world and its wonderfully diverse inhabitants it was Melbourne that stole her heart and it is in her arms that she truly and finally felt at home.

Shannon gets excited about beautiful light, big cities, the smell of the Australian bush, brewing storms, documentaries, salt and vinegar chips and of course, great design.

She brings many years experience in communications, photography and studio management to Studio Y and feels incredibly privileged to work for such a leading design force.

"I am fascinated by environment and its direct effect on the way we feel. Space and its relationship to practicality and flow is particularly exciting when combined with colour and lighting to create an experience that's sensory as well visual".
