Ambience Lighting
Ambience Lighting
When our good friends at Ambience asked Studio Y to help design their new office in Melbourne’s north, we knew it had to be befitting of the leading lighting designers. We played with the optical phenomenon of prisms, translating the way they refract light into an innovative and idiosyncratic office design. The office consists of a main open space, divided into more intimate and colourful working areas, all visually connected and filtered through a dichroic film that shifts as you move; changing from purple to pink, to blue and to everything in between. Throughout the day, varied visual stimulation is created via an interplay of colour, shadows and the angular geometry of the walls and joinery.

The creative execution of the space is designed to evolve throughout the day, with the kaleidoscope of colour shifting at different times; from mesmerising natural light, to dramatic prism effects and arresting backlit colour gradients, with the colours becoming denser and shadows more dynamic at different times of day.
